Board Members
Sharon Sykas is a political activist, fundraiser and community volunteer who believes strongly in public service and supporting the candidates of your choice.
Since moving to New Hampshire from Connecticut in 1997 with her husband Mark, Sharon has devoted much of her time to the Republican Party. Over the past eleven years, she has worked on several state and national campaigns including: Jeb Bradley, John E. Sununu, Mitt Romney and George W. Bush. In 2004, Sharon served as the state Chair of “W Stands for Women” and was elected an Alternate Delegate to the Republican National Convention in New York City. In 2008 Sharon and her husband, Mark received the Norris Cotton Award from the New Hampshire Republican State Committee in recognition of their service to the republican Party.
Sharon has served on the board of many organizations that promote women in politics. From 2003 to 2006, she was President of the Seacoast Republican Women, a group that supports Republican’s through education as well as political and social activity. From 2006 – 2008 Sharon served as President of the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women (NHFRW). As President, she sat on the New Hampshire Republican State Committee and the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFWR). From 2005 – 2007 Sharon served on the board of the Vesta Roy Excellence in Public Service and she has returned to that Board in 2009.
Sharon also works within her community as a hospice volunteer and a CASA/ Court Appointed Special Advocate, where for over ten years she has advocated for children whose parents are brought before Family Court because of abuse or neglect. Sharon also served on the Advisory Committee of Jobs for New Hampshire where she worked with high school dropouts. From 1999 – 2003 Sharon was a member of the Stratham Economic Development Committee and was its Chair for two years. She also served as a fundraiser for the Aids Response Seacoast and the Strawberry Banke Museum in Portsmouth. In 1998 Sharon received the Seacoast Business Professional Women, Women of Achievement Award for her volunteerism.
Sharon was born and raised on Long Island, NY and is a graduate of Cabrini College and New York University’s Paralegal Program. During her professional career, Sharon has been an elementary school teacher, paralegal and group health insurance executive.
